hello again.

Life gets busy.  And certain things get put on the back burner – like this blog.  🙂

So to catch up…

Life mostly consists of three things – school, work, and family – mostly kitchen management.  Drake and I officially manage dinner and keeping the kitchen clean, and I do much of the meal planning and making of the main dish, while Drake often helps with sides.  It keeps me busy!

I think I have mentioned before that I was blessed with a job at a small salon in town.  I recently passed my one year anniversary there, and I have really been enjoying it.  I clean, answer the phone, and do other secretarial work.  Sometimes there’s time to study or read, which I always enjoy.  Often there are fun people I get to meet.  Today there was this ADORABLE four year old that helped me for a little while.  She was so sweet.

School.  School.  School.  That’s the other one.  So my midwifery school is going well. I am hoping to have it done in about a year, and then I can figure out where I want to go from there.  At this time, I am pretty sure that I don’t want to continue with midwifery, but I still want to stay in the alternative health world.  I am currently thinking about naturopathy, but we’ll see where I am in a year.  Who knows what will change!

So those are the big three.  I haven’t been doing much trying of knew recipes, or creative cooking, just because I have been so busy.  Mostly I am just trying to get a dinner that works with my food restrictions onto the table.

Oh, and food restrictions…so I think I have written about not being Primal/Paleo anymore.  I started incorporating more grains into my diet earlier this year, and helped me feel better. Now I am avoiding red meats, dairy, and caffeine, which my doctor has me doing to speed healing.  It has pushed me to try new things.

A few weekends ago, my cousins, aunts and uncles, and grandparents came and visited.  We all had too much fun.  Love all of you – I am so blessed to have you all!

Aaaand last night we started dance lessons!  Drake and I danced together. So much fun. Looking forward to more dancing.  😛

Well, that is all for now.  See you around!

Snow Down at the Creek

It snowed yesterday.  It snowed, and snowed, and snowed.

Needless to say, the world is a rather white place today.  My siblings and I went for a walk down to the creek.  If you remember this post, I love the creek.  I had never seen it in it’s snowy garb, so I was pleased to see it this way.  I hope you enjoy!

Friday Night

We were most of the way through dinner when Drake gave me a sideways look.

“I wonder who could hold water in their mouth longer.”

I finished my last few bites quickly (or at least I tried to), then raised my glass to Drake an took a sip of water.

Game on!

We both lifted our cups to our lips, and took mouthfuls of water.

And so it started.

I got up and started clearing the table.  Since Dad was playing music, I started dancing around (kind of showing off :)).  I pulled out a piece of masking tape and wrote on it, “I have a feeling that this is going to end in water coming out of someone’s nose.”  I showed it to everyone, then wrapped it across my forehead.

Drake pointed at me, and then did thumbs down.  “You’re going DOWN!”  I shook my head, then signed the same thing back to him.  “No, YOU’RE going down!”

And then Dad put on a song that was in three.  I started waltzing around.  Drake stared waltzing around on the other side of the room.  We both stopped, and then Drake entered the kitchen.  He was standing real close to me, and I jumped away from him.  I didn’t know what he was doing!  I thought he was trying to make me swallow/spit out my water.

Then he stared to waltzing around, and I could tell that he wanted me to waltz with him.  So I did.

And that proved to be my downfall.

We had been waltzing for 3 counts when Mom said “Look!” or something like that.

And that’s when I lost it.  I started laughing.  Not just giggling, like I had been doing off and on the whole time, but really laughing.

I knew, at that moment, that I was done for.

I ran to the bathroom and spat out my water.  After coughing, I burst out laughing.

Drake had followed me, and was silently celebrating.  He waited a bit longer, then spat out his water.

After talking a bit, I told him, “We’ll have to do that again.”  I still thought I could win.

“Don’t get your hopes up.” he replied.

Just another Friday night.  🙂
