Snow!

Sorry I didn’t post last week.  So I’ll post two this week to make up. 🙂

Last week we got about a foot of snow.  And it was about 8*F out, too, which makes it really hard for this girl to stay inside and not take photos!  But when they were saying “frostbite in less than 10 minutes” on the radio, I figured I should stay inside.  🙂

So here are a few I grabbed from the front porch and windows.

Aren’t all the lines from the wind blowing cool?  And the light.  OH.  THE.  LIGHT.  Photographers like light.  🙂

Today in Photos

Happy New Year, everybody!

Long time no see!

Again.

Sorry ‘bout that.

One of my New Year’s resolutions is to post more often.  So I have determined to post at least one post a week.  Not too daunting, eh?

So to start:  today in pictures.  I (finally!) brought my camera to work, and took some shots while I was there.  (And I had a little fun.  So don’t mind the hair-product-pictures, o.k.?)

So these start in the morning, and go through the day.

P.S.  What do you think of my silver and turquoise nails?

Today–12/9/13

Dusk is falling.  It’s one of those snowy dusks, which translates into everything just turning blue.  It’s really pretty.  Especially when viewed while drinking a dairy-free o.k.-sugar mocha.  Yes, I have FINALLY cracked the code and found out how to make a (see above).  Maybe I’ll tell you sometime.

Now I am (should be making) dinner.  And I should be posting about our lovely Thanksgiving (and my first 5k!) and our Winter trip to Branson (we got snowed in), but instead I feel like just posting what’s up.

Today I gave Lucy a shave.  May seem like an odd thing to do, what with the cold weather and all, but she was in desperate need.  So I gave her a good shave.  She still isn’t talking to me.  And by that I mean that when I call her, she doesn’t come, since I called her when we were cutting her hair, and she resents that.  Or thinks that I still have the clippers hidden somewhere.

I also baked a pumpkin that I had, cause it needed to be cooked so it didn’t rot.  Last time I cooked a pumpkin, Lucy helped herself to some, and it turns out she LOVES pumpkin.  And I found out that pumpkin is good for dogs.  So this time around I gave her some.  She wants more.  But man was she begging while I was working on it.  Those little puppy eyes.  Oh-so-cute!

So now I am cleaning up the kitchen and prepping dinner (fish).  And rocking out to music.  Everything’s better when done to music.

And my mocha’s cold now.  Oh well.  Still tastes good.

Off to dance and cook,
Allison

Snow Down at the Creek

It snowed yesterday.  It snowed, and snowed, and snowed.

Needless to say, the world is a rather white place today.  My siblings and I went for a walk down to the creek.  If you remember this post, I love the creek.  I had never seen it in it’s snowy garb, so I was pleased to see it this way.  I hope you enjoy!

Snow and Paleo Biscuits

Here is another “mixed” post – food and something else.  Funny how that happens.  But I guess that is the way my life is.  🙂

I saw a recipe for Paleo biscuits a few months ago.  I was intrigued.  But 6 egg whites?  I really don’t like using only half of the egg.

I was reminded of these last week when I made some regular biscuits.  And today I tried them.

And I was pleasantly surprised.

They have a different texture, and a different flavor than regular biscuits, but I still really enjoyed them.  It was lovely to have something to spread butter and jam on again.  Mmmm…

When I had the dough all mixed up, I didn’t think that it would work.  It didn’t really stick together.  Even when I scooped it into the muffin pans and tried to press them together, they still crumbled.  But once they were baked, they stuck together fairly well.  As my family can attest, they were a bit crumbly, so I just spread the butter and jam on top instead of putting it inside.  (They were enjoying watching me eat one at dinner, as I tried as hard as I could to have it crumble only into my mouth.)

Here is where you can find the recipe.  I might try to add some salt next time, but I am not sure how that will alter how they rise.  Note:  I am not familiar with this website, and do not claim to know or endorse the other content on this site.  Over and out.

See?  All gone.  🙂

It snowed on Saturday.  A good, thick snow.  Lovely.

But, as usually happens here in the Midwest, the temperature rose to 50*F, and it was melting.  *Sniff*  I like the snow.

Anyways, I was able to take a few photos of it before it totally melted away.

Snow, and a Bit More

A synopsis of today.

It snowed today.  I love the snow.  It was also really windy.  I walked outside to the mailbox, and brought my camera.  Some fun self-portraits ensued!

I had about half of a can of coconut milk left over from making something for the get-together, so I decided to make some coffee ice cream.  I chopped up some chocolate chips and threw them in there, too.  Coffee chocolate chip!  Mmmm…

Yesterday I put Christmas lights up on Meiling’s and my bed.  It is really beginning to feel like Christmas, with the snow and the lights and the baking.

Well, I guess that is about it.

Oh, one more thing.

After we already had some snow accumulation, I wanted to plug in the Christmas lights on the back deck.  I was wearing my sandals (since I was inside), and I didn’t want to take them out into the snow.  I didn’t want to have to dry them off when I came back inside.  I considered going around, but I didn’t want to mess up the lovely snow (laugh at me, I know, but I like the snow).  So I just went barefoot.  I knew it would be cold, but I have done bare feet in the snow before.  As stepped into the snow, I started yelping.  Man, it was cold!  When I picked up the cord, it was covered with snow.  So I had to stand there, my feet in the snow, and shake, wipe, and blow the snow off the cord.  And my feet just kept getting colder.  I thought, “Man, now I know what the dogs feel like when they go out in the snow!  Their poor little pads!”  I opened the door to come inside, my feet were all wet, and I didn’t want to walk on the floor.  Since there were a bunch of people in the kitchen, I just started calling, “Somebody, bring me a towel!”  Mom answered, “No!  Why do you need a towel?  What are you doing?”  I used my apron.  And then she brought me a towel.  🙂

Moral of the story:  Get a towel before you go barefoot in the snow.  Or at least tell people what you are doing, so they will understand when you need a towel, and they will also understand the yelling.

Well, that would be the end of that!

And now for a picture:

My grandparents had Noel on their fridge during Christmas.  The letters were all separate, and when we had our family Christmas get-together, a group of the cousins (including me) would rearrange the letters to spell “Leon.”  I am not sure if this name had particular significance, but it was fun.  🙂  Remember that?  I have these letters rearranged after this tradition.

Also, my grandparents had some plastic mistletoe that they would hang up in different spots.  Once they hung it from the fan upstairs, and once they hung it over the stairs heading into the basement (the basement was were the tree was, and were all the cousins played/hung out).  All the girl cousins would try to get other cousins tricked into walking under the mistletoe, so we would have to kiss them.  🙂 It was funny.

Fond memories.

Anyone else have any fun Christmas memories?

At dinner tonight:

Meiling, coughing, “We were smoking our bazookas!”

Say what?

(Not.  She has a cold.)

A Wintry Day

It snowed last night.  A lovely, sticky snow that stuck to everything.  It outlined all the trees in white, which looked so beautiful with the gray sky behind them.  Even though I was busy this morning, the snow didn’t melt before I had time to photograph it. 🙂

After I came inside, I made chocolate chip cookies. I used the America’s Test Kitchen recipe, which is just wonderful!  What a great thing to do on a snowy day.
